- 1 lb ground pork or ground turkey/chicken for leaner option
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp dried sage
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes optional for heat
- 1-2 tbsp water or chicken broth for moisture
- Olive oil or butter for cooking
Prepare the sausage mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat with salt, black pepper, sage, thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix well until the ingredients are fully incorporated. Add 1-2 tablespoons of water or chicken broth to help bind the mixture and keep it moist.
Form the sausage links: Wet your hands slightly to prevent sticking, then roll the sausage mixture into small, evenly sized links (about 4-5 inches long each). Set them aside on a plate.
Preheat the pan: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add a splash of olive oil or a small amount of butter to coat the bottom of the pan.
Cook the sausage links: Carefully add the sausage links to the heated skillet, making sure they don’t touch. Cook for about 6-7 minutes per side, rotating the sausages to ensure they are evenly browned and cooked through. Use tongs to turn the links, cooking until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
Serve and enjoy: Once the sausages are golden-brown and fully cooked, remove them from the skillet and serve immediately with your favorite breakfast sides like eggs, pancakes, or toast.
